Significance of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award
This nomination is particularly special as it’s Kelce’s second consideration for the award, which honors players for their contributions both on and off the field. He was previously nominated in 2020, a year when Russell Wilson won the award.
The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, presented by Nationwide, honors an NFL player for their outstanding contributions on and off the field.
Established in 1970 and renamed in 1999 in honor of Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton, this award recognizes a player from each of the NFL’s 32 teams for their significant positive impact in their communities.
Each season, nominees receive special recognition starting from Week 14, and each team selects one player for the award.
Winners receive a substantial donation of $265,000 to a charity of their choice, while all nominees are awarded $55,000.
