Taylor Swift’s passionate fanbase has developed a theory that some tracks on her album The Tortured Poets Department may actually reference Matt Healy from 1975, rather than the Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce.
Before her relationship with the NFL player began in August 2023, the 34-year-old star was previously seen on multiple outings with the quirky British musician, hinting at a possible romance, although it did not become official.
Swift is well-known for weaving tales of her past relationships into her music, often in subtle ways. While the involvement of Healy in her album remains unconfirmed, fans eagerly search for clues connecting her lyrics to him.
Specific attention has turned to the song “Guilty As Sin,” especially the lines “Drowning in the Blue Nile/He sent me ‘Downtown Lights’/I hadn’t heard it in a while,” sparked by a social media post from Healy.
Recently, Healy shared a link to the song on his Instagram story, prompting fan excitement as they believe they’ve made a significant connection between the lyrics and his influence.
One fan expressed on X.com (formerly Twitter), “Matty Healy posting Downtown Lights onto his story and I am reacting totally normally about it.”
Another chimed in, “Matty Healy loves chaos.”
While a third fan questioned, “Am I allowed to cry?”
Conversely, a fourth fan criticized him, stating, “Bro why give him attention? He’s been trying to get Swifties to talk about him, just ignore him; he’s promoting his new album.”
Has Healy listened to The Tortured Poets Department?
As of April 2024, Healy claimed he had not yet listened to the album but indicated that his perspective might have changed since then.
He did, however, express no negativity towards either Swift or the album, stating, “I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”
Regardless, their former relationship appears to be over, as Swift is now focused on her romance with Kelce, while Healy is engaged to a model named Gabriette.
