The celebrated singer-songwriter, aged 35, reportedly invested $360 million to reacquire her catalog from Shamrock Capital, a private equity firm that had obtained the masters from Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in 2020. Swift’s quest for ownership began in 2019 when Braun acquired Big Machine Records, the label that held the rights to her recordings. In retaliation, she initiated her ambitious Taylor’s Version project, re-recording and re-releasing her albums to reclaim the commercial rights to her music. Even after acquiring her masters, Swift noted that she still needs to finish re-recording Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and her debut album.
