Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are currently navigating the complexities of dividing their assets as they finalize their divorce after a two-year marriage. The absence of a prenuptial agreement has heightened tensions in the process.
A source close to the couple has disclosed that while they are striving for an amicable resolution, there is potential for the situation to become acrimonious. The couple is grappling with financial disputes, particularly concerning the division of significant assets such as the $60.8 million Beverly Hills estate they acquired last year.
Under California law, only assets accumulated during the marriage are subject to division; however, lacking a prenuptial agreement means the couple must come to terms on how to divide their joint earnings and property.
In her divorce filing, Lopez indicated April 26, 2024, as the date of their separation while pointing out that many of their assets are currently “unknown.” Engaged in mediation presently, the duo has chosen this less formal method to expedite the resolution of their issues compared to traditional divorce proceedings.
Meanwhile, Affleck seems to be transitioning smoothly into his new chapter. He recently bought a $20.5 million estate in Brentwood and reportedly feels “happy” and “content” as he settles into his new abode. This acquisition, made on Lopez’s birthday on July 24, represents a fresh start for the actor in the midst of the separation process.
“He’s found his desired location: near his children and in a neighborhood he adores,” an insider shared with People. “He is also engaged in his work and remains focused on the positives.”
Commenced Divorce Proceedings
Lopez, on her part, has been on the lookout for a new residence since May but has not finalized any agreements yet. Despite the ongoing challenges, those in her inner circle affirm that she is handling the situation adeptly, with a source mentioning that she “feels fortunate” despite some lingering bitterness from the separation.
Lopez officially filed for divorce in August citing “irreconcilable differences.” As the process unfolded, speculations surfaced about Affleck potentially dating Kick Kennedy, daughter of RFK Jr., following sightings of them together in Los Angeles.
However, representatives of Affleck promptly dismissed the rumors, asserting that there is “no truth” to the claims and it remains unclear if the two even know each other.
