Brooke Baldwin was a prominent anchor at CNN for more than ten years, having joined the network in 2008. She started her career on “CNN Newsroom” and spent her first six years in Atlanta before transferring to New York in 2014. Baldwin’s time with CNN culminated in her departure in April 2021, leaving many viewers curious about the reasons behind her exit.
Her exit raised questions, especially since she had expressed interest in pursuing other opportunities, including writing. Her book, “Huddle: How Women Unlock Their Collective Power,” published just days before her departure, fueled speculation about her future. However, the reality of her departure reveals deeper issues at play, notably a desire for greater freedom beyond CNN’s constraints.
Brooke Baldwin faced challenges at CNN
Baldwin, known for her professionalism on-air, recently opened up about her struggles behind the scenes in a revealing essay for Vanity Fair. In this piece, she described experiences of feeling silenced and manipulated, which she believes contributed to her decision to leave. She referred to her situation as a form of gaslighting and detailed a particularly difficult interaction with CNN’s then-president, Jeff Zucker.
In her essay, Baldwin recounted a tense exchange where Zucker threatened to replace her show host, indicating she needed her executive producer, who she felt hindered her voice. By early 2021, Baldwin learned her time at CNN was coming to an end—not due to quitting, as many thought, but rather a decision made by the network.
Since departing CNN, Baldwin has taken on new projects, including the Netflix reality show “The Trust: A Game of Greed,” which premiered in early 2024. While a renewal status for the show is yet to be determined, Baldwin is using her new freedom to address workplace toxicity, advocating for positive change in media environments.
