The Previous Career Paths of HGTV’s Ben And Erin Napier Before Gaining Fame in Their Hometown

Before achieving fame with their show “Home Town”, Ben and Erin Napier had regular jobs like everyone else. Despite criticism for not having a background in building or interiors before the show, Ben and Erin have been transparent about their past experiences. Erin, who co-owns Lucky Luxe Heirloom Design stationery company with Ben, was approached by HGTV without initially realizing the show’s purpose, as she thought the network was contacting her for stationery orders. She remains a co-owner of the company to this day.

Ben, on the other hand, had experience working in an upholstery shop during college and was passionate about woodworking. He left his job as a church minister to establish Scotsman Co., which produced various home products. Ben remains the owner of Scotsman Co. and was actively involved in the city of Laurel, even pursuing a political career. Despite the unsuccessful attempt, Ben served as the president of the Laurel chapter of Main Street America, showcasing his dedication to his community prior to their TV show. 

In addition to woodworking and ministry, Ben embarked on various endeavors before becoming a reality star. He founded Scotsman Co. where he crafted a range of homeware products. Even though his political career aspirations did not materialize, Ben’s involvement in enhancing Laurel’s community and businesses reflected his commitment to his hometown even before the TV show. 

Despite their success post-“Home Town” debut, Ben and Erin Napiers continue to run their own businesses, including the Laurel Mercantile Co., where they offer home décor products and Erin’s artworks. The couple values being self-employed, as Erin mentioned in her blog, highlighting the freedom and gratitude that comes with it. Their unwavering commitment to their entrepreneurial ventures is evident, reflecting their determination to pursue their passions alongside their TV endeavors.
