In August 2018, Gretchen Wilson found herself embroiled in controversy after being cited for a misdemeanor related to public disorder at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut. According to sources cited by TMZ, the country singer, known for “Redneck Woman,” was involved in a dispute with another traveler on an American Airlines flight from Washington D.C. Following the landing, she was detained and charged for her unruly behavior towards law enforcement, as reported by CNN.
A week later, Wilson commented on the situation via her Facebook page, stating that she was unable to disclose full details due to ongoing legal matters. Not long after, she expressed to Taste of Country that media portrayals of the incident were inaccurate. “Those who truly know me understand my intent to clarify,” she remarked. “I see all these headlines stating, ‘This is so not right, just not right!'”
By September 2018, the charges against her were dismissed, as reported by People. As part of the resolution, Wilson committed to contribute $500 to a charity. In a subsequent interview with Taste of Country, she reiterated that the incident had been misunderstood and that she hadn’t been in a physical confrontation during the flight.
