Although Kevin Costner appears cheerful about moving on from “Yellowstone,” behind the scenes, things seem less favorable. It seems that life after Dutton Ranch isn’t as enjoyable as he lets on, hinting at possible feelings of regret.
In June 2024, Costner shared his departure via an Instagram post, citing his commitment to “Horizon,” a project aimed at solidifying his legacy in Western dramas. He expressed love for the show and its cast while announcing he would be leaving. Yet, during divorce proceedings with Christine Baumgartner, he disclosed that the reality was more complex; he struggled to balance filming with creative differences and pay cuts, stating he was offered less than previous seasons. “I couldn’t help them any longer,” he noted, implying his exit may not have been entirely voluntary.
Currently, Costner’s discontent is increasingly visible. On the night of the final season premiere of “Yellowstone,” instead of attending, he opted for another awards show, demonstrating his apparent resentment. Adding to this, he claimed ignorance about the show’s airing schedule.
Claiming Ignorance on ‘Yellowstone’s’ Airing
Kevin Costner’s behavior mirrors that of a conflicted break-up, asserting he’s moved on from “Yellowstone,” yet clearly hasn’t. As the cast celebrated the final season on November 7, 2024, Costner was across the ocean at the Bambi Awards in Germany, where he received the “Actor International” award, highlighting the awkward timing.
Shortly after, during an interview on “The Michael Smerconish Program,” he candidly admitted he didn’t realize the final season was airing. “To be completely honest, I didn’t know it was on last night,” he said, mentioning his dissatisfaction with his character’s fate. “I heard it’s a suicide, which doesn’t exactly make me want to rush to see it,” although he acknowledged the writers’ capabilities.

Despite the signals to the contrary, Costner claims there are no lingering issues with the “Yellowstone” team. “I have no bad blood with ‘Yellowstone.’ I cherish the show. I’ve moved on, and it’s not something I want to dwell on,” he stated during a guest appearance on “The Adam Carolla Show,” while hinting at being open to future opportunities.
