While football star Travis Kelce continues to excel on the field for the Kansas City Chiefs, he is now venturing into acting.
It has been confirmed that Travis will be part of the cast for ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, with the announcement made by Adam Sandler on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’.
“Travis mentioned it so we have a nice something for Travis,” said Sandler. “He’s going to come by.
“He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”
The announcement aligns with Kelce’s openly expressed admiration for the original movie. He previously mentioned on his ‘New Heights’ podcast his desire to be part of the sequel.
“Man, I didn’t even know there was a job opening,” he told his brother Jason. “I’ll be a f***ing extra, anything to get around Happy Gilmore, an Adam Sandler film or set – count me in.
“I’ll do anything in the movie. I’ll be part of it any way I possibly can.”
Kelce further displayed his enthusiasm for the film by sporting a Happy Gilmore cap at Coachella earlier this year while attending with Taylor Swift.
Insights into Kelce’s Role
As of now, there are no specifics available regarding Kelce’s role in the movie, but the project is progressing.
An open casting call has been announced in New Jersey recently, with filming set to commence shortly, as confirmed by Sandler.
“We’re getting ready to shoot it in New Jersey, we get started in a couple weeks,” mentioned Sandler. “It’s good, we worked hard at the script, we didn’t want to let people down.
“So many golfers are going to be a part of it. I have to practice (the Happy Gilmore swing). I tried it out, I fell. But I’ll be ready when it is time to shoot.”
Kelce’s involvement in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ signals a positive trajectory for his acting career. Additionally, he is reportedly in talks to star in an action comedy film, ‘Loose Cannons’, as per the Hollywood Reporter.
Kelce is also set to host his own gameshow, ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity’, premiering on Amazon Prime in October, and will feature in ‘Grotesquerie’, a drama scheduled for release on Hulu on September 25.
