The Kansas City Chiefs achieved a narrow 19-17 win against the Las Vegas Raiders in an exciting Black Friday game of Week 13, maintaining their strong season record at 11-1. Nevertheless, this match revealed certain issues that the team needs to address as they head into the playoffs.
As the game wound down, the Raiders had a chance to equalize with a field goal. Unfortunately for them, a premature snap by rookie center Jackson Powers-Johnson led to a fumble, which Chiefs defenders quickly recovered, ending the Raiders‘ chance for a comeback.
Even with the Chiefs‘ success, their offensive performance was challenging, with every yard fought for. Tight end Travis Kelce showcased his skills with seven catches for 68 yards, notably executing a clever lateral pass to Samaje Perine for a crucial first down. Still, the offensive difficulties were apparent, leading quarterback Patrick Mahomes to reflect on the situation.
“Though we’re winning, we’re not content with where we stand,” Mahomes expressed. “We aim to embody the team we believe we can be as the playoffs near.”
The game had its fair share of star-studded highlights, including Travis Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, who was present with her father, Scott Swift, and Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, cheering from the stands. However, Kelce appeared rather reserved after the win and chose not to engage with the media.
Kelce Sends Congrats to Allen
Kelce did take the time to congratulate Bills quarterback Josh Allen and actress Hailee Steinfeld on their recent engagement.
Allen announced the news via Instagram, receiving a warm, “Congratulations!!!” from Kelce. Steinfeld, a close friend of Swift, previously collaborated with her on the famous “Bad Blood” music video, bringing a touch of Hollywood to the NFL.
Although the Chiefs have secured a playoff berth and lead the AFC standings, their recent performances have uncovered certain weaknesses. Both the defense and offense of Kansas City have areas for growth, a sentiment voiced by Mahomes.
“We need to improve. Everyone in our locker room acknowledges that,” he stated.
