Throughout the first three weeks of the 2024/25 NFL season, the 35-year-old player only recorded eight catches for 69 yards, which led fans to speculate that he may be experiencing a decline due to age.
Nonetheless, Patrick Mahomes has refuted this notion, stating that all Kelce requires is more opportunities. Despite being covered tightly by opposing defenses, Kelce bounced back by catching 16 passes for 159 yards across Weeks 4 and 5.
Still, there are ongoing accusations regarding his girlfriend’s impact. Following his relationship with Swift that began in August 2023, some claim his performance has declined, including a Fox News host who stated, “He decided he wanted to be a Swiftie. Now his game has decreased. The fall of every great man is always a woman.”
Kelce’s Potential Remains
Though Kelce has yet to score a touchdown in the current season, he continues to contribute significantly to the offense by effectively receiving passes from Mahomes, showcasing that he still has a lot to offer the Chiefs.
During the recent game against the Saints, which the Chiefs won 26-13, Kelce made a smart play after recognizing he couldn’t advance past the defense. Instead of forcing it, he lateraled the ball to a teammate, which nearly resulted in a touchdown at a critical moment in the game.
This quick thinking illustrates that while he may not be as speedy as before, his experience over a decade in the sport allows him to adapt and find ways to make impactful plays at Arrowhead Stadium.
