Tricia Helfer, known for her Hallmark films like “Sun, Sand and Romance” and “Operation Christmas,” was married to Jonathan Marshall for 13 years. Their divorce became public in 2018 when Helfer filed, citing “irreconcilable differences” and attempting to avoid spousal support obligations. While their separation seemed sudden, Helfer had hinted at underlying issues earlier, mentioning a “very tough personal situation” in her marriage around the same time. They had actually separated a year prior, on May 12, 2017.
Fortunately, the couple’s divorce did not result in excessive costs. Helfer and Marshall waived their rights to receive spousal support from each other. Helfer came out better in terms of assets, obtaining two homes and several luxury cars, including a Porsche McCann. Meanwhile, Marshall took one property, two vehicles, and more than $1.2 million from one bank account, while Helfer received around 10% of that total.
Tricia Helfer’s reflections on her marriage
In a recent podcast episode featuring her former “Battlestar Galactica” co-star Katee Sackhoff, Helfer expressed regret about her marriage, wishing she had divorced sooner. She noted that she had been unhappy for several years, feeling trapped in the relationship, stating, “I wish I had done it earlier.” Despite some good times, Helfer felt miserable during the last seven years of their union.
Recalling the beginning of their relationship, Helfer fondly described how they met at a mutual friend’s birthday party. She reminisced about the magical instant when they connected, which led to their marriage a year later. As of now, Helfer reveals that while Marshall has moved on, she remains single.
