Violet Affleck has recently disclosed her battle with a post-viral disease that she contracted in 2019 and decided to share her experience in a public speech.
The 18-year-old daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner occasionally steps into the spotlight as she pursues her college studies.
She recently made an appearance at a meeting of the LA County Board of Supervisors.
Violet’s Call to Action
Violet spoke at the event while wearing a protective mask and advocated for increased accessibility to masks in public spaces during the community feedback portion of the meeting.
“In 2019, I contracted a post-viral condition,” Violet disclosed. “I’m better now, but I witnessed firsthand the limitations of medicine in addressing the repercussions even of minor viruses. The current COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted this issue even more.”
Post-viral conditions typically occur following a viral infection and can manifest as fatigue, memory loss, lack of focus, and prolonged exhaustion, lasting for months post-infection, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Speaking at the board meeting, Affleck expressed, “One in 10 infections results in long COVID, a severe neurological and cardiovascular ailment that can significantly impair people’s ability to function, from working to basic cognitive processes, hitting vulnerable communities the hardest across the nation.”
“To address the long COVID crisis, I urge for the availability of masks, air purification, and far-UVC lights in government establishments, including correctional facilities, and advocate for mask mandates in county healthcare facilities,” she emphasized.
