Victoria Beckham is currently organizing a series of extravagant celebrations for her husband David Beckham‘s upcoming 50th birthday, which has created some tension with her long-time friends.
The preparations for the former England and Manchester United player’s milestone birthday are proving to be a challenge for Victoria.
She is particularly concerned about her Spice Girls bandmates and the potential complications surrounding the event set for May.
Victoria’s Challenge with the Spice Girls
Victoria’s four bandmates—Emma Bunton (48), Mel Brown (49), Mel Chisholm (51), and Geri Horner (52)—attended her 50th birthday celebration, which has raised concerns for her regarding past tensions between Mel B and Geri.
Reports indicated that Horner declined to reunite with Brown due to ongoing disputes. Furthermore, Mel B allegedly referred to her bandmates as “bitches” after being ostracized from their group chat for suggesting a tour.
According to a source from Radar On Line, “Victoria is deeply engaged in planning David’s birthday bash; she wants it to be as spectacular as the one he gave her.” She is envisioning a family holiday, a romantic escape for just the two of them, and a grand celebration filled with friends. However, the guest list poses a dilemma regarding which Spice Girls to invite.
The source further explained, “In an ideal scenario, Victoria would invite Emma and Mel C, yet omitting Geri and Mel B complicates matters. The prospect of their presence together is daunting, but she appreciates their significance during the early years of her relationship with David. It would feel wrong not to include them.”
Victoria and Geri’s Complicated History
Beckham and Horner share a strained relationship dating back to Horner’s unexpected departure from the band in 1998. Beckham recalled, “Geri’s exit was tough. She left on my birthday without informing anyone. We had to continue our tour in the U.S.”
Disagreements resurfaced during the much-publicized reunion tour in 2019.
While Brown accused Beckham of being “difficult” for not participating, it was reported that her conflicts with Horner hindered her involvement.
A source revealed prior to the reunion, “They are extremely divided, each viewing themselves as the leader. Everyone prepares for some intense discussions.”
The reunion saw the band performing as a quartet for 13 shows, while Beckham earned $2.5 million from licensing and merchandise without performing.
At that time, she stated her preference to focus on her fashion line and her children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
More recently, Beckham emphasized that chapter of her life is “definitely closed,” and now that her fashion and beauty brand is finally thriving, it’s her primary focus.
