Let’s just cut to the chase: Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, we need more.
Now don’t get us wrong. Three summers ago, you gave the world a taste of your raunchy musical chemistry as “certified freaks” rapping loud and proud about “WAP.” The Frank Ski–assisted rap bop was a three-course meal paired with a delicious WAPtastic visual, which we happily gobbled up. For months, our bellies were full as we looped the pussy rap anthem to no end, turning it into a record-breaking, platinum-certified, Billboard-topping hit, and one of the biggest, if not the biggest, songs of 2020.
Then we found ourselves starving for another meeting of your rhymes, and to our surprise, you two delivered by dropping a new banger: “Bongos,” which is already getting serious play on TikTok and, soon, every club far and wide. But you two did us one even better by performing the sizzling track live, for the first time, at the 2023 MTV VMAs. And what a performance it was. As if we all weren’t already shaking our bongos, watching you two set the stage ablaze with spicy bars and hot moves (shout-out to Sean Bankhead), Offset’s cheery reaction in the crowd made one thing clear to us: we need another collab.
And another, and another after that. Hell, why not shoot for an entire collaborative album? Better yet, revive the mixtape era and kick it off with a slew of tracks — two Grammy-winning rap stars, at the top of their game, going bar for bar. Just imagine how the hooks will sound.
You two have said it yourselves, you make for great collaborators. Before “Bongos” even dropped, Cardi, you said of Megan, “It makes me feel good that she trusts me. . . . We trust each other.” Can you believe you almost passed on the chance to work with her? And you, Megan, said that thanks to Cardi, “Bongos” challenged you to “rap in a different way”: “I was like, ‘Oh, OK, she want me to go put my foot in this b*tch. OK, I can do that for her.'”
Now think about what else you could accomplish if you two got back in the studio together. Make history again, start another movement — the sky is the limit. That is, if you haven’t already recorded more songs. Technically, Cardi, you teased what we could expect should you two decide to drop more hits: “I would like to do a song with Megan that’s a little bit more aggressive, because I’ve been popping my sh*t heavy and she be talking her sh*t heavy, [too].” So, what do you say we make it official? You pick a date, and we’ll mark our calendars.
Sincerely, your very eager fans.
