Former NBA power forward Shawn Kemp was recently arrested following an incident involving a “drive-by shooting” in Tacoma, Washington. According to the Tacoma Police Department, an altercation between the occupants of two vehicles resulted in shots being fired in a parking lot. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and a weapon was recovered from the area. The 53-year-old male arrested was later identified as Kemp.
Sources close to the former athlete told FOX 13 News that Kemp had fired shots in self-defense after his car was robbed earlier in the week. He had tracked his iPhone to the area and was fired at while approaching the vehicle.
Kemp has made attempts to turn his life around since his first bout of arrests, attributing it to fatherhood. In a 2022 interview with The Washington Post, he stated that having kids “made [him] grow up.” He added: “It always amazes me how some people can look at something as being so bad when it could change a person’s life around and make life so much better for them. If it wasn’t for my kids, man, I’d have probably been reckless as hell. I would’ve really been one reckless-ass dude.”
