After launching Young Money Radio on Friday, Lil Wayne delivers an extended video for “Piano Trap” and “Not Me” off his Funeral album.
Directed by Ricky x Willis, the thrilling clip showcases Weezy’s love for skateboarding and features the Young Money boss landing stunts at the skatepark. It opens with a warning sign from the city of Beverly Hills that forbids bike riding and skateboarding, but Tunechi could care less about rules. He sparks a blunt and stares into the camera.
The clip is mostly comprised of skate footage. At one point, he references the pandemic with a “BROVID-17” PSA with the warning, “Authorities are urging everyone stay inside…and thrash!”
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Wayne said he chose to showcase his skating after one of his friends, Yosef “Yoyo” Rateliff, sent him a skate video with “Piano Trap” playing in the background. “I’ve found skateboarding to be a release from life and all this shit in general!” he said. “That’s why I can’t stop won’t stop!”
But you’ll have to wait until the end for what he considers the best part. “I was happiest with the banger at the end! In Barcelona, the 180 to fake shuv!” he said. “It was like 5 a.m. and those homies who was lit at the end were unknown to me! They were just out there kickin it! And they literally didn’t bother me until I landed that shit! And it took me about an hour or two.”
On Friday, Wayne hosted the inaugural episode of Young Money Radio on Apple Music with guests including Travis Scott, Lil Baby, and Babyface. During the live broadcast, he previewed collaborations with Tory Lanez and Jessie Reyez off the forthcoming deluxe edition of Funeral.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Wayne also announced that his non-profit, One Family Foundation, and Apple Music are donating $200,000 to New Orleans via World Central Kitchen.
