Lizzo was that girl at the Renaissance tour. In a June 27 Instagram post, the singer captured herself getting emotional as she watched Beyoncé display her name across the stadium screen in Warsaw, Poland while singing “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix).” The lyrics of the song included a shout out to several influential female artists like Lauryn Hill, Grace Jones, Betty Davis, and Rosetta Tharpe. Rounding out the group was Lizzo herself, with Beyoncé placing special emphasis on her name during the live performance.
“In that moment I was thinking about baby me, listening to Happy Face by destiny’s child and crying myself to sleep because of bullies,” Lizzo captioned her post. “I thought about Beyoncé jumping into the room where Tina Turner was waiting to meet her for the first time. I think of what we all mean to people and how cyclical it is. We are all so infinitesimally and maximally connected and significant. It’s an honor,” she continued, thanking Beyoncé for her recognition.
In the sweet video, Lizzo watched her name come up on the Renaissance screen and turned to the camera holding back tears and shaking her head in disbelief. Throughout the rest of the concert, fan footage showed Lizzo living her best life, singing her heart out to tracks like “Energy” and “Church Girl,” and even re-creating Blue Ivy’s viral “My Power” choreography on her own TikTok.
