When Michael Douglas married Diandra Luker, she was already accustomed to a life of luxury, having been raised by a wealthy diplomat. Douglas was doing well for himself, having starred in the long-running cop drama “The Streets of San Francisco” and having won a Best Picture Oscar as a producer on “One Flew Under the Cuckoo’s Nest”. His celebrity status increased and his movie career took off, but Luker found it difficult to adjust to the Hollywood lifestyle and moved to Santa Barbara and then Manhattan. The couple started to drift apart and Douglas began drinking heavily and taking advantage of his A-list status. Luker had had enough and Douglas entered rehab in an attempt to save their marriage, but it was too late. In 1995, Luker filed for divorce and when it was finalized, the public got an idea of how much Douglas was worth. According to Harpers Bazaar, Luker received $45 million as well as their Santa Barbara estate, making it one of the most expensive celebrity divorces ever. Eleven years later, Luker returned, demanding 50% of Douglas’ payment for the 2010 sequel to “Wall Street”. She told Harpers that she wasn’t a greedy person by nature and asked herself every night if she should walk away.
