Review of “Longlegs” Movie, Where to Watch, and How to Download

Osgood Perkins’ film “Longlegs” is intentionally unsettling and thought-provoking. It aims to create a cinematic nightmare rather than realism, with an oppressive sound design and stylized performances. While it shares some narrative elements with “The Silence of the Lambs,” it distinguishes itself tonally. The film engulfs viewers without much respite, evoking a sense of constant tension.

Although Perkins occasionally loses the dreamlike atmosphere with an exposition-heavy segment, “Longlegs” struggles to fully commit to its eerie eccentricity. The movie, despite its pre-release hype, at times retreats from its oddity instead of embracing confusion. The ambiguity and peculiarities of the film could have been further emphasized for a more immersive experience.

The film opens with a compelling flashback, establishing a sinister tone through a child’s perspective. As the story progresses, the protagonist, Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), a psychic FBI agent, gets involved in a disturbing case linked to a Satan-worshipping serial killer. Nicolas Cage delivers a unique performance as the antagonist, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.

“Longlegs” meticulously crafts its elements, showcasing the director’s talent. The use of camera angles, imagery, and character names contributes to the film’s eerie ambiance. While the movie invites analysis and interpretation, it occasionally over-explains details, diminishing the impact of the unsettling storyline. However, the film’s thematic depth and intense moments resonate with audiences interested in horror.
