Cixin Liu’s “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” trilogy is getting the Netflix treatment. On June 17, the streamer teased a first look at its forthcoming “3 Body Problem” series during Netflix’s Tudum event. Directed by Derek Tsang and executive produced by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, the dramatic sci-fi show — which is based on Liu’s first book in the trilogy, “The Three-Body Problem” — tells the story of what happens when humanity discovers we are not alone in the universe.
“As children, we fear the dark. Anything might be out there. The unknown troubles us. There are those who say we should not inquire too closely into who else might be living in that darkness. Better not to know,” a voiceover says in the teaser clip. “But we continue to search. Life looks for life.”
The show’s official logline reads: “A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time to a group of brilliant scientists in the present day. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.”
