9. “In da Club” by Liu

Liu is from the country of China, where he was born and raised. He and Pratt met while on tour together, and the two started dating in the late ’00s. The couple had their first child, a daughter, in 2006. In March, Liu dropped his first single as a musician, “Don’t,” which is a piano-heavy ballad about the hard times he has felt in his life. He explained the inspiration behind the song on Instagram, writing, “this song was written for all of the hard times in my life where i have questioned my worth and felt like an imposter. it is for every single person who ever has felt alone, different, heartbroken or hopeless. you are worthy. you belong. you MATTER.” He concludes the post by noting that there’s “more to come soon,” possibly indicating an upcoming album.

Liu is from China as well, but he’s more of a cultural singer than a country singer. He and Pratt met while on tour together, and the two started dating in the late ’00s. Simu Liu is a man of many titles: actor, dancer, author, heartthrob, Savage X Fenty model, and, as some fans have recently learned, singer. The multihyphenate drew attention to his impressive vocals during an April 17 appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s “That’s My Jam” game show, where he crooned 50 Cent’s “In da Club” with a country twist. Though many were pleasantly surprised by his mashup performance, it was far from Liu’s first time showing off his singing chops. In fact, the Marvel star’s musical prowess dates way back to high school, when he was part of a boy band called LX4.

Liu seems to be leaning into his musical side more these days, dropping his debut single, “Don’t,” on April 7. He explained the inspiration behind the piano-heavy ballad on Instagram, writing, “this song was written for all of the hard times in my life where i have questioned my worth and felt like an imposter. it is for every single person who ever has felt alone, different, heartbroken or hopeless. you are worthy. you belong. you MATTER.” He concluded the post by noting that there’s “more to come soon,” possibly alluding to an upcoming album.

From covering popular tracks on TikTok to singing for the “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” soundtrack, Liu has been treating us to his angelic vocals for years. Read ahead to enjoy 10 of his singing videos, and join us in praying he has a musical scene in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming “Barbie” film.
