Shawn Kemp Cleared of Charges After Arrest for Alleged Shooting Incident

Prosecutors have confirmed that Shawn Kemp was released from jail one day after his arrest, with no immediate criminal charges being filed. A spokesperson for the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office stated to CNN that the case’s status is “No Charges Filed” pending further investigation by Tacoma Police. According to Kemp’s attorney, V. Scott Boatman, a group of people had broken into the NBA star’s car on March 7, stealing his iPhone. Kemp tracked the phone to a car in a parking lot and attempted to retrieve his belongings, but was shot at and had to fire back in self-defense. Boatman clarified that there was no drive-by shooting, and Kemp’s actions were reasonable and legally justified. This is not Kemp’s first run-in with the law, as he was arrested for drug possession in 2005 and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession in 2006.
