After the United States women’s national team compete in the 2023 World Cup this summer, fans will be able to revisit the journey in a totally different way this fall. On July 17, Netflix announced it’s currently filming a new, multi-episode docuseries about the USWNT’s World Cup journey that will premiere this fall on the streamer. The series is a co-production with Time Studios, Words + Pictures, and Togethxr and is directed by two-time Emmy award winner and Time Studios executive producer Rebecca Gitlitz.

Per Netflix, the series will give an inside look at “the most decorated team in soccer history.” If the USWNT win, it will be their third World Cup title in a row. “Issues ranging from racial diversity, LGBTQ+ rights, equal pay, family, and motherhood are all brought to light as the narrative unfolds,” Netflix said in its press release.

As for which members of the team will receive the most screen time during the documentary, that pretty much depends on what happens during the World Cup. However, Netflix pointed out that the show will of course follow star Megan Rapinoe, who just announced she’ll retire later this year; veteran forward Alex Morgan; and a lot of the team’s newcomers, including 18-year-old rising star Alyssa Thompson.

The series is currently in production at the World Cup in New Zealand and Australia as the team prepare for the tournament to start. The USWNT begin group play on July 21.
