The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye, is making his mark in Hollywood with his first starring role in a feature film. On Feb. 28, his representative confirmed to POPSUGAR that he will be taking on the roles of lead actor, producer, writer, and director in an upcoming movie. Co-starring alongside him will be Jenna Ortega from “Wednesday” and Barry Keoghan from “The Banshees of Inisherin”.
The movie will be produced and co-written by Tesfaye’s producing partner Reza Fahim, and additional producers include Kevin Turen from “The Idol” and Harrison Kreiss from “Euphoria”. Chayse Irvin, Trey Edward Shults, and Daniel Lopatin (also known as OPN) will be part of the crew. OPN has previously worked on the scores for “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems”, which The Weeknd made a cameo appearance in.
Details about the plot, genre, and cast are still under wraps. This news comes ahead of the series premiere of The Weeknd’s HBO show “The Idol”, which stars The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, Dan Levy, and Blackpink’s Jennie Kim. With both “The Idol” and his new movie, it looks like The Weeknd will be everywhere soon!
