In 1998, Brendan Fraser and Afton Smith began their relationship after meeting at Winona Ryder’s July 4th party in 1993. At the time, Ryder was already a well-known Hollywood star, having starred in films such as “Heathers,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Reality Bites,” which also featured Smith. Fraser, on the other hand, was a fresh face in the industry, having appeared in popular movies like “Encino Man” and “School Ties,” which starred a young Matt Damon. A few years later, Damon began dating Ryder, leading to a brief yet tragic romance that caused him to swear off dating other celebrities.
Fraser and Smith, however, had a much more successful relationship. In 2003, Fraser’s “Looney Tunes: Back in Action” co-star Jenna Elfman commented on the actor’s devotion to his wife, saying “It’s very beautiful to watch a man’s love for his wife be expressed so tenderly.” Fraser himself said of Smith, “I knew I could combine my personal and professional ambitions and have a friend to be within her. Five years later she did me the honor of being my wife.”
