Anh Thu: A Source of Inspiration Through Adversity

Anh Thu, born in 1997, stands at 1.42 meters tall and weighs 27kg due to a childhood illness that hindered her physical growth. Without timely medical care for a severe fever, she lost muscle development, leaving her physically fragile.

At the age of five, Thu was sent to live in a temple by her mother. Raised by compassionate nuns, she longed for the warmth of a family, especially during holidays, hoping her mother would bring her home.

Throughout school, Thu faced teasing for her appearance, leading her to withdraw socially and find solace in art. Drawing became her outlet to express emotions and find meaning in life.

After high school, Thu pursued a pharmacy program but later transitioned to a career as a freelance artist. Her portraits and illustrations have gained recognition, allowing her to turn her passion for art into a profession.

Thu’s room is adorned with vivid paintings reflecting her zest for life and the world around her.

Besides art, Thu sustains herself by selling vegetarian bánh mì, known not only for their taste but also for the joyful service she provides.

Starting her day at 4 a.m., Thu meticulously prepares sandwiches to be sold by 7 a.m., each wrapped with care and accompanied by words of encouragement.

“I love my work and feel fortunate to have the health to work and live independently,” Thu expressed.

On social media, Thu embraces her uniqueness under the alias “Co Khuyet” (Miss Imperfect). Her TikTok channel, with over 200,000 followers, showcases her art, bánh mì sales, and daily life snippets.

Initially apprehensive of criticism, Thu expanded her content to include fashion, confidently displaying different styles despite initial fears.

Despite facing negative comments, Thu found solace in the support of a close friend who helped her regain confidence.
