Upon learning of the passing of Secretary-General Nguyen Phu Trong, artisan Dinh Lam Toi felt a deep emotional response.
Toi expressed his admiration for Secretary-General Nguyen Phu Trong’s talents, virtues, and unwavering dedication to the nation. Though he had never met Trong in person, Toi was inspired by his sincerity, simplicity, and people-centric commitment. This led Toi to create a tribute art piece honoring Trong’s memory within the hearts of the Vietnamese population.
Driven by this sentiment, Toi and four collaborators dedicated a night to meticulously crafting a bronze portrait of the Secretary-General, ensuring every detail reflected his essence.
The process began by heating the bronze to a malleable state for carving. Each artisan then delicately chiseled features like the nose, eyes, and mouth using specialized tools.
Toi emphasized the artisans’ intense focus required to encapsulate the Secretary-General’s essence in the portrait.
Creating a traditional portrait demands not only technical skill in capturing physical likeness but also depth in exhibiting the subject’s character and spirit. Their deep respect for Nguyen Phu Trong translated into a poignant artwork that emotionally commemorates the esteemed leader.
Despite tempting offers to purchase the piece, Dinh Lam Toi politely declined, stating, “We intend to preserve it as a keepsake. This portrait signifies not just an artistic creation but a token of love and appreciation for our exceptional national leader.”
Born in 1985 in Dai Bai, Bac Ninh Province’s renowned bronze carving village, Dinh Lam Toi leverages over 16 years of experience in bronze crafting, gold leafing, and gold plating. His expertise extends to intricate bronze portraiture, a demanding art form requiring precision, patience, and exceptional artistic talent.
