Rising Tourism in Binh Dinh Province
Binh Dinh Province, located in central Vietnam, encompasses over 6,000 square kilometers and boasts a coastline spanning 134 kilometers. It is emerging as a notable tourist destination, celebrated for its beautiful landscapes and rich cultural history. The province is adopting modern promotional tactics and digital strategies to draw in tourists.
With comprehensive marketing campaigns and the hosting of prestigious events, Binh Dinh anticipates welcoming 9.2 million visitors in 2024, reflecting a significant 83.9% increase compared to 2023.
This projection includes almost 94,000 international visitors, showing a 17.3% rise, and 9.1 million domestic travelers, which is an 85% increase. Expected tourism revenue is approximately 25.5 trillion VND, marking a 55.4% increase from the previous year.
The hospitality sector in Binh Dinh has also seen substantial growth, now featuring over 1,034 lodging facilities with 19,100 rooms, an increase from 430 facilities and 13,619 rooms in 2023. Among these, 557 establishments offer services ranging from basic to five-star levels.
Establishing a Global Event Hub
Binh Dinh is positioning itself as a key venue for significant international events, starting with the ASEAN Clean Tourism City Award 2024 awarded to Quy Nhon City during the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF).
This year’s major events included:
- Amazing Binh Dinh Fest 2024: This festival, featuring the Aquabike World Championship and the F1H2O World Powerboat Championship, attracted 710,000 visitors over 10 days in March, with 70 athletes from 30 countries participating – marking Vietnam’s first hosting of these competitions.
- VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon 2024: Held between June 21-23, this marathon saw over 8,000 athletes and nearly 30,000 attendees.
- Teqball World Championship 2024: Taking place in June, this event welcomed 115 athletes from 52 nations, making Quy Nhon the first Asian city to host this global tournament. Laszlo Vajda, Secretary General of the International Teqball Federation, noted that this achievement showcases Quy Nhon’s international importance.
Lam Hai Giang, Deputy Chairman of the Binh Dinh People’s Committee, highlighted that international sporting events have created new prospects for Vietnam’s marine sports and tourism industries. By merging sports and tourism, the province aims to establish a unique economic model that could serve as a template for the entire country.
Binh Dinh’s emphasis on sports tourism, coupled with varied attractions like eco-tourism, cultural heritage tourism, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions), aligns with its ambition to become a leading tourism hub by 2025.
Building on the accomplishments of 2024, the province intends to host several prominent events in 2025, including the return of the Aquabike and F1H2O Championships, an international music festival, and a global golf tournament. These plans are expected to further enhance Binh Dinh’s status as a top tourist destination.
“The diverse lineup of cultural, sports, and tourism events scheduled for 2025 is poised to make it another groundbreaking year for Binh Dinh,” stated Tran Van Thanh, Director of the Department of Tourism.
