Same-sex couples often encounter various challenges, including societal bias and family issues. Nonetheless, many strive to overcome these difficulties for the sake of their love.
One such couple is Ly Nhu Y, born in 1985 in Ca Mau, and Du Tuyet Nhi, born in 1996 in Can Tho.
Nhu Y discovered her sexual identity during her teenage years, realizing that her feelings were directed toward other girls, often yearning for their affection and support.
In 2021, Tuyet Nhi developed feelings for Nhu Y after watching a popular video featuring her. Although they had never interacted before, Nhi reached out, eager to connect.
Being 11 years apart in age, Y was initially hesitant about entering a romantic relationship. Nevertheless, Nhi’s determination and thoughtful messages eventually won her over.
“Nhi’s genuine affection gradually found a way into my heart,” Y remembers fondly.
As Y’s birthday approached, Nhi sent her a message asking to meet on that day. At the time, Y resided in Da Lat, while Nhi was in Binh Duong, and they decided to meet in Vung Tau.
“During our first encounter, I was charmed by Nhi’s heartfelt sincerity, while she appreciated my kindness and gentleness. From that moment, we have been inseparable,” Y expressed.
Despite the geographical distance, their relationship has flourished. Y works as a wedding photographer in Da Lat, and Nhi serves as a Chinese translator for an international company in Binh Duong. They stay connected through messaging and video calls.
The couple makes an effort to visit one another monthly, ensuring they don’t miss a chance to be together.
“Nhi typically takes the lead in visiting me, wanting to spare me the long trip. There was even a time she made a 24-hour round trip just to see me. Our love has endured like this for years,” Y shared.
Y appreciates Nhi’s purity, honesty, and a touch of jealousy in her character. Their age difference does not create any divide; rather, they find compatibility in their thoughts and lifestyles.
The couple has never openly discussed their sexual identities with their families, keeping their love a secret.
Y’s father passed away eight years ago, and her mother does not accept her being part of the LGBT community. Meanwhile, Nhi’s parents might be aware of their daughter’s truth, but they choose to ignore it.
