As reported by Downdetector, a service that tracks outages in real time, the disruptions commenced around 1:45 PM local time in Vietnam and swiftly affected users across the UK, Europe, North America, and Australia.
In Vietnam, many users expressed their frustrations on social media, stating they could not access the chatbot.
A variety of Facebook groups and pages provided updates confirming the failure of ChatGPT, with numerous screenshots indicating widespread issues.
Alongside ChatGPT, OpenAI’s image creation tool, Sora, has also been experiencing difficulties, with users facing error notifications and loading failures.
OpenAI has recognized the outage and confirmed awareness of the situation. At the time of this report, the disruption has persisted for over five hours.
A test conducted by VietNamNet on the evening of June 10 showed that ChatGPT did not respond to any queries, further validating the extensive service disruption.
Launched in late 2022, ChatGPT is a prominent generative AI chatbot created by OpenAI. As per Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s Chief Operating Officer, the service currently serves around 400 million users each week and is projected to reach 1 billion by the end of 2025.
According to Semrush, ChatGPT.com garners about 5.2 billion visits monthly, attracting 605.1 million unique individuals.
While waiting for the issues to be resolved, users are looking for alternative AI chatbots, such as Google Gemini and Grok.
