Chilly Raindrops Dampen Hanoi’s Streets as Tet Approaches

Rain and cold weather empty Hanoi’s streets ahead of Tet

Quiet Morning in Hanoi due to Rain and Cold Weather

On the morning of January 26, as per the lunar calendar, Hanoi was blanketed by rain and cool temperatures, attributed to an incoming cold air mass. The streets were notably less busy, with a decrease in traffic.

At 8 a.m., Nguyen Trai Street, which connects Ha Dong District to Nga Tu So in Dong Da District, saw minimal traffic as the rain and chill discouraged people from going out.

Similarly, the Thanh Xuan underpass showed a significant drop in vehicle numbers. A lot of residents have left for their hometowns in anticipation of the Lunar New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan 2025).

Nguyen Thi Ha, a local from Ha Dong District, remarked that the rain influenced people’s decision to stay home. “Shoppers for Tet are also waiting for the weather to improve,” she stated.

In sharp contrast to the bustling traffic of January 23-26, Lang Street presented a starkly quieter scene with only a few vehicles on the road.

On Tran Phu Street, close to the Ha Dong Post Office, the traffic was noticeably lighter than usual.

Tran Duy Hung Street, near Thang Long Boulevard underpass, was similarly calm, without the usual long lines of cars waiting at traffic signals.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting confirmed that scattered rain occurred throughout January 26, with temperatures falling to between 9-12°C due to the cold front.

Rain is predicted to continue into the evening, with some areas experiencing occasional thunderstorms.

The Hanoi Traffic Police have advised drivers to be careful during the rainy conditions.

Given the slippery streets and reduced visibility, maintaining speed limits and following lane discipline is essential for safety on the roads.
