Enhanced Mobile Internet Speeds in Vietnam Surge by 40% Since March 2024

Mobile internet speeds in Vietnam surge by 40% since March 2024

New data from i-Speed, created by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), reveals that the average mobile internet download speed in Vietnam rose to 54.34 Mbps in July 2024, up slightly from 52.4 Mbps in June. The upload speed has remained consistent at about 21.19 Mbps.

Since March 2024, the average mobile internet download speed in the country has steadily increased from 38.69 Mbps, indicating a significant enhancement in user satisfaction. Concurrently, upload speeds have also seen a 20% growth during the same period.

In the competitive mobile internet market, Viettel has taken the lead, providing an average download speed of 65.89 Mbps and an upload speed of 21.71 Mbps as of July 2024. VNPT comes next with average speeds of 52.99 Mbps (download) and 21.5 Mbps (upload). MobiFone and Vietnamobile lag behind with lower speeds, highlighting performance differences among providers.

Regarding fixed broadband services, Viettel is the frontrunner with the highest average download speed of 128.97 Mbps. Major players like FPT Telecom and VNPT also exhibit strong performances, signaling robust competition within the industry.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has been actively releasing these metrics to cultivate a competitive and transparent environment for internet services. This action not only enables consumers to make well-informed choices but also compels Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to consistently enhance their service standards.

“The public disclosure of service quality metrics has spurred advancements across all providers, elevating the overall infrastructure and user experience in the digital realm,” mentioned a MIC spokesperson.

The Department of Telecommunications encourages the public to regularly utilize the i-Speed application, a tool designed to measure internet speeds without using data. This initiative forms part of a broader plan to involve consumers in actively monitoring and reporting on their internet service quality.

As Vietnam progresses in developing its digital infrastructure, the continual enhancement in internet speeds signifies the country’s dedication to fostering a vibrant and competitive telecommunications sector. With ongoing regulatory initiatives and engaged consumer participation, Vietnam is on track to solidify its position as a leading digital economy in the region.
