To improve road safety and decrease accidents, fines for certain infractions will see significant increases.
Decree 168 outlines regulations for penalties related to traffic violations and the points system for driving licenses, reflecting a considerable rise in fines for actions that greatly contribute to accidents, particularly on highways.
Here’s how the fines under the new decree compare to those established in the earlier Decrees 100 and 123:
The Traffic Police Department, under the Ministry of Public Security, created this new decree in response to persistent traffic challenges, including frequent violations and inadequate consequences in previous laws.
With nearly 500,000 new cars and 2 million motorcycles added to Vietnam’s roads each year, the existing infrastructure is struggling to accommodate this growth. Despite advancements in traffic safety, officials emphasize the necessity for stricter enforcement to deter reckless behavior that endangers public safety.
“Our aim is to bring order back to the roads and lower the incidence of traffic accidents through tougher enforcement and penalties that reflect the severity of the offenses,” explained a representative.
Decree 168 represents Vietnam’s dedication to improving road safety by implementing harsher penalties along with a points system for drivers. Authorities are optimistic that these strategies will promote better behavior among road users, ultimately minimizing accident risks.
Nonetheless, for this decree to be effective, it is crucial to conduct extensive public awareness campaigns and maintain consistent enforcement, ensuring adherence and long-lasting changes.
