Throughout the challenges of history, Dak Rang Village in Duc Nong Commune, Quang Ngai Province has managed to uphold the unique cultural heritage of the Gie Trieng community, thanks to the passionate efforts of skilled artisans committed to their ancestral customs.
Nestled alongside the Ho Chi Minh Road, Dak Rang is a tranquil village comprised of 110 families and 348 inhabitants, all belonging to the Gie Trieng ethnicity, who have called this place home for many years.
The village showcases its traditional architecture and a vibrant selection of cultural practices, which include gong and xoang performances, folk music, traditional wine-making, brocade weaving, crafting musical instruments, and creating tools from bamboo and rattan for daily use.
In 2024, Dak Rang achieved official status as a community tourism village. This recognition has not only enhanced tourism and elevated local incomes but has also fostered a greater understanding among younger locals about the significance of safeguarding and perpetuating the cultural heritage of the Gie Trieng community.
In Dak Rang, elders Bro Ve (right) and A Qua (left) play a vital role as cultural guardians. They are among the few remaining individuals knowledgeable in teaching ancient gong melodies and in the craftsmanship of traditional musical instruments like drums, bamboo flutes, and dinh tut (a Gie Trieng wind instrument).
