Nong Thuy Hang, who earned the title of Miss Ethnic Vietnam 2022, has always showcased the rich heritage of her Tay culture at every event she attends.
Hailing from Ha Giang, a northern region renowned for its stunning landscapes and diverse ethnicities, Nong Thuy Hang’s upbringing fostered her resilience, pride, and rich cultural understanding—traits that now characterize her public persona and personal aspirations.

For Hang, Ha Giang represents much more than just her hometown; it embodies the essence of her identity. The mountains and local traditions instilled in her a sense of independence, determination in overcoming challenges, and a strong appreciation for her cultural roots.
These principles have guided her as she navigated a journey that intertwined intellect, culture, and beauty.
Hang boasts an academic background that is as remarkable as her achievements in pageantry. A consistent top performer throughout her school years, she also secured third place in a national literature contest—an accomplishment that might have directed her towards an academic career.
However, she never saw beauty and education as mutually exclusive paths. Rather, she viewed knowledge as a means to enhance her magnetism and believed that intelligence is as crucial to influence as physical appearance.
When the chance to participate in pageants materialized, she embraced it as an opportunity to advocate for her culture and demonstrate that girls from ethnic backgrounds can thrive in various arenas.
Even with her crowning, Hang did not see the title as the ultimate achievement. For her, beauty and intellect serve as instruments for community service, storytelling, and cultural preservation.

Nonetheless, her journey has faced its share of bias. As a Tay woman, she has encountered limiting stereotypes—encouragement to marry young or doubts about her suitability for conventional pageantry.
Instead of succumbing to these challenges, she transformed them into a source of motivation. Each stride forward reaffirmed her commitment to her community as well as herself, proving that women from ethnic minorities can excel in any field.
A significant initiative she undertook post-crowning was “A Thousand Hues of Wedding Wear from Vietnamese Ethnic Communities.”
This project represented more than just artistic documentation; it was a heartfelt endeavor to reconnect with and safeguard her cultural heritage.
Each outfit highlighted within the project encapsulated narratives, traditions, and the essence of a community.
During one unforgettable photoshoot in Thai Nguyen amidst heavy rain, although unable to source garments from a museum, her team gained support from a local brand, and the resulting images became a source of pride for their role in cultural preservation.

On the global stage, particularly during Miss Friendship International 2023, Hang’s Tay heritage provided her with a distinct perspective.
She eloquently shared tales of her community’s traditional music, such as Then, the significant Tinh lute, along with her tribe’s vibrant attire.
However, it was her Tay values—kindness, honesty, and loyalty—that grounded her presence throughout the competition.
Her authentic demeanor also influenced her personal life. She met her boyfriend through a charity organization, where their mutual friends introduced them. Their first encounter coincided with a family duty—accompanying her grandmother to an eye appointment.
Rather than postpone, he kindly offered to join them, showcasing his respectful and genuine nature, which left a positive impression on her.
For Hang, a meaningful relationship is founded on respect, acceptance, and mutual growth—not sameness, but an appreciation of differences.
When she decided to make their relationship public, she was mindful of the potential impact on her public image. Nevertheless, she firmly believed that a strong woman shouldn’t conceal her happiness, provided she maintained a clear distinction between her personal and public responsibilities.
As she navigates the entertainment world, Hang remains committed to her principles of ethics and authenticity. In an environment rife with temptations, she feels that while fame may be temporary, self-respect and integrity last. To her, success is never worth compromising one’s values.
She is determined not to let the spotlight cloud her identity or divert her from the guiding principles that have shaped her since childhood.
