Global Opportunities Await Digital Technology Workforce, But Training Needs A Boost

Digital technology staff posed to work globally, but more training needed

During a recent seminar held in HCM City, Nguyen Thanh Tuyen, deputy director of the Authority of ICT under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), highlighted the high demand for Vietnamese digital technology professionals worldwide. Various countries including Japan, South Korea, Europe, the US, and Canada are seeking Vietnam’s skilled workforce.

The Chair of Kanagawa province in Japan expressed interest in inviting Vietnamese IT firms to establish offices in Kanagawa to aid in digital transformation. Similarly, leaders in Fukuoka, Japan, have welcomed Vietnamese IT firms to address the scarcity of workers in the country’s fourth largest economic zone.

Recognizing Vietnam’s potential in semiconductor and AI fields, the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Council emphasized the need for Vietnam to become a vital link in the global human resources supply chain.

Reports from international organizations consistently position Vietnam as a crucial player in the global talent pool due to the nation’s strong presence in the technological workforce.

The 2023 IT Topdev Report revealed that Vietnam ranks 28th worldwide in developers’ skills and holds the second spot in technical skills within the Asia Pacific region.

According to a UNESCO survey, Vietnam is placed 10th globally in engineer training, demonstrating the country’s commitment to nurturing skilled professionals in the field.

Intel Vietnam’s Country Director, Phung Viet Thang, acknowledged the abundant human resource potential in Vietnam’s digital technology sector. However, he emphasized the importance of leveraging this potential into tangible value by equipping the workforce with practical skills and knowledge.

Pham Minh Tuan, Deputy President of FPT, highlighted the need for enhanced creativity among Vietnamese developers to enable them to create comprehensive software products.

Dr. Le Quan from Fulbright Vietnam University emphasized the necessity of addressing gaps in training programs to better equip graduates for industry demands in semiconductor technology.

Experts suggest that collaboration with global enterprises can play a significant role in enhancing Vietnam’s digital technology workforce by providing training opportunities and real-world learning experiences.

Intel Vietnam, for example, has initiated a training program in AI in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Training to nurture talent in the field.
