The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s director, Nguyen Xuan Dai, mentioned that businesses, cooperatives, and farming households are adopting technologies such as automatic drip irrigation and temperature control in greenhouses to conserve water, reduce labor costs, and increase crop yields.
In livestock farming, sensor systems and automatic feeding systems are being utilized on many farms to manage livestock efficiently with the help of software.
An example is the Xu Doai Agriculture Cooperative, which implemented a membrane house for grape cultivation along with drip irrigation to deliver nutrients to every plant, maintaining soil moisture levels and lowering labor expenses.
After a trial period and overcoming initial setbacks, the grape cultivation method now yields profits significantly higher than traditional methods, prompting the establishment of the Xu Doai Agriculture Cooperative with increased funding and land.
This success story has spurred the adoption of high-tech solutions and digital transformation in Hanoi’s suburban areas.
Deputy Chair of the Quoc Oai District Farmers Association, Do Thi Quynh Anh, mentioned that the association supports members in integrating digital technologies into agricultural practices. For instance, the grape production model in Cong Hoa commune employs software for monitoring input materials like fertilizers and ensuring crop traceability.
The district farmers association plans to offer training programs to assist members in leveraging digital tools for production, including the adoption of apps like Nong Dan Viet Nam and Dan Viet for enhanced access to agricultural information and markets.
Chuc Son Clean Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative in Chuong My district, by implementing an electronic diary system among other measures, has achieved significant outcomes. Transparent labeling for traceability has improved product information visibility, ensuring stable vegetable output of three tons per day with annual profits amounting to tens of billions of dong.
Hoang Van Kham from the cooperative highlighted that production management is now streamlined through smartphones, enabling clients to track the cultivation history of products by accessing details on farming activities, from cultivation to harvesting.
Reports indicate that Hanoi currently employs 285 high-tech agricultural production models. The value of high-tech agricultural products constitutes 40% of the total agricultural production value in the city.
