General Phan Van Giang Reviews Defense Expo Preparations
On the morning of November 30, Vietnam’s Minister of Defense, General Phan Van Giang, assessed the preparations for the upcoming second Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024, set to be held at Gia Lam Airport in Hanoi’s Long Bien District.
The rehearsal included more than 2,000 participants from various military units, including special forces and military musicians, as well as artists. The rehearsals showcased combat demonstrations, martial arts, and performances featuring military working dogs.
A standout feature of the rehearsal was an impressive aerial show with Su-30MK2 fighter jets and Mi helicopters. The aerial performance highlighted the pilots’ skills from Air Regiments 927 and 916, who executed choreographed maneuvers in the sky.
For the aerial display, seven Su-30MK2 fighter jets launched from Kep Airport in Bac Giang. They flew in two formations, with the first group consisting of three jets followed by a formation of four, all emphasizing synchronized flying.
Additionally, seven Mi helicopters took off from Hoa Lac Airport, carrying Vietnam’s national flag and the event’s symbolic banner, performing coordinated flight paths above the ceremony area.
General Giang commended the aerial and ground units for their impressive displays, highlighting the strength and cohesion of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
The Minister stressed the expo’s importance, indicating that it reflects Vietnam’s dedication to peace, autonomy, and modern defense capabilities. “Our pilots represent the might of our military worldwide,” remarked General Giang. He noted the link between the military’s actions and Vietnam’s rich history of over 4,000 years, especially as the nation celebrates significant anniversaries.
He encouraged all branches of the military to refine their preparations, ensuring that the expo effectively communicates Vietnam’s commitment to peace and collaboration to international attendees.
The Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 is scheduled for December 19 to 22 at Gia Lam Airport, spanning over 100,000 square meters, and will feature:
- Indoor displays covering 15,000 square meters, which is double the area used in 2022.
- Outdoor exhibitions exceeding 20,000 square meters.
The themed opening ceremony, “Vietnam – Peace – Cooperation – Development,” will last one hour and will include a 30-minute cultural performance before the main proceedings.
This expo will serve as a platform to highlight Vietnam’s advancements in defense technology and the dual role of the VPA in both defense and socio-economic progress.
