Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating its urban transit plans, aiming to finish 355 kilometers of metro lines by 2035 and an extra 155 kilometers by 2045. This adjustment will lead to a total of 510 kilometers, achieving the goal 15 years ahead of the initial timeline.
On December 10, Tran Quang Lam, the Director of the Transportation Department, provided an update on the city’s metro development at a meeting of the People’s Council.
Originally, the city’s proposal included 183 kilometers of metro lines by 2035, 168 kilometers by 2045, and an additional 159 kilometers by 2060, totaling 510 kilometers.
During the presentation, Director Lam revealed notable changes to these proposals.
Following guidance from the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Transport, Ho Chi Minh City has fast-tracked its metro development plans.
The revised plan now aims for 355 kilometers of metro lines finished by 2035, funded by an estimated $40.21 billion, with an additional 155 kilometers expected to be completed by 2045. This expands the total metro network to 510 kilometers.
This revision significantly increases the investment plan for 2035 from 183 kilometers to 355 kilometers and reduces the overall project completion timeline from 2060 to 2045.
