Ho Chi Minh City is set to finalize its administrative restructuring from February 13 to 16, 2025, with the outcomes to be reported to the Standing Committee of the HCMC Party Committee, as stated by the Department of Home Affairs.
This morning (December 26), a conference was held where the Department outlined its restructuring timeline in line with Central Government directives, while also reviewing the city’s socio-economic performance for 2024 and planning for 2025.
The Department of Home Affairs noted that between December 28, 2024, and February 16, 2025, all administrative units must complete their restructuring, stabilize their operations, and submit reports to the Department.
Vo Ngoc Quoc Thuan, the Director of the HCMC Department of Home Affairs, announced that the city aims to reduce internal organizational units by 15% and streamline staff according to Central Government guidelines.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 21 specialized agencies, which will decrease to 15 post-restructuring.
Furthermore, the eight existing administrative offices will merge into four.
District-level People’s Committees will also see a reduction, with departments shrinking from 12 to 10. In Thu Duc City, reductions will bring numbers down from 16 to 14 departments.
Thuan emphasized the necessity for the restructuring to maintain synchronization and consistency across all levels of governance.
The goal is to reduce internal complexities while optimizing workforce structure and improving the capacity of civil servants to align with modern demands.
“This streamlined approach will cultivate an efficient and competent team of public officials that addresses the city’s developmental goals and encourages swift and sustainable growth,” Thuan remarked.
