HCMC Unveils 10 New Transportation Projects Ahead of Lunar New Year Celebration

HCM City announces completion of 10 transport projects before Lunar New Year

On January 9, the Director of the HCMC Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, Luong Minh Phuc, shared updates regarding ten ongoing projects, all expected to be ready for use by the Lunar New Year in 2025.

Two key projects will have formal inauguration ceremonies: the renovated Hang Bang Canal in District 5 will be unveiled at 8 a.m. on January 17, and the newly built Tan Ky – Tan Quy Bridge in Binh Tan District will be inaugurated on January 20, also at 8 a.m.

In addition, five projects will begin operations without special ceremonies. This includes the expansion of Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Tan Binh District, which will extend about 800 meters from the military barracks near the airport to Cong Hoa Street, with the road width increasing from 8-10 meters to 22 meters.

A section of the road linking Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa will partially open, particularly the stretch from the Phan Thuc Duyen underpass to Hoang Hoa Tham. Three access points to Terminal 3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport, both elevated and at ground level, have been completed.

The final part of this route, from Hoang Hoa Tham to its terminus, is expected to have the land cleared by February 20, with completion and operational readiness anticipated by April 30 to align with the launch of Terminal 3.

Another project, the upgraded Luong Dinh Cua Street, will open its segment between Nguyen Hoang and Tran Nao intersections, although work will continue in some areas due to delays in land clearance.

The expansion of Duong Quang Ham Street will see its first phase finished, allowing limited traffic access. The full road opening is expected after finishing underground electrical installations and removing power poles by April 30.

Tan Long Bridge will open one lane for traffic, while Ba Hom Bridge will be fully operational by January 26.

At the An Phu Intersection project in Thu Duc City, features like Ba Dat Bridge and Giong Ong To 2 Bridge are complete but will remain inactive until the entire intersection project is completed by the end of 2025.

At the Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho Intersection in District 7, surface works on the HC1 and HC2 tunnels are concluding, allowing the public to use the two underground roads and the main intersection starting January 20.

In 2024, a total of ten projects were successfully completed by the Traffic Management Board, including Ten Lua Road, Nam Ly Bridge, the HC1 and HC2 tunnels at the Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho intersection, Ong Bon Bridge, Rach Dia Bridge, Phuoc Long Bridge, the first phase of the parallel road to National Highway 50, and Tan Ky – Tan Quy Road. Additionally, the second phase of the Binh Hung wastewater treatment plant was also finalized.
