A heavy traffic situation was observed on the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay expressway, with the most severe congestion reported at the toll station in Song Nhan commune, Cam My district, Dong Nai province. The traffic jam extended for nearly 10 kilometers, prompting some drivers to use the emergency lane in an attempt to bypass the gridlock.
The increase in traffic was attributed to the influx of people returning to the city after the long holiday period, especially following the National Day break. The bottleneck at the two-lane toll station at Km94 added to the congestion, acting as a major obstruction that impeded the flow of vehicles.
A resident of Go Vap district in Ho Chi Minh City, Minh Hung, mentioned that his family altered their travel plans to return home sooner in anticipation of the traffic buildup. Despite their efforts to avoid the congestion, they still encountered delays at the toll station, reflecting the severity of the situation.
The management unit of the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway highlighted issues such as low account balances and malfunctioning toll cards as contributing factors to the delays at the toll station, exacerbating the traffic issues. To address the situation, personnel were deployed to Km63 to manage traffic flow and guide vehicles towards the exit onto National Route 1.
