Highlighting Vietnam’s Ceramic National Treasures through Stamp Series

Vietnam releases stamp series highlighting ceramic national treasures

A newly designed stamp series created by artist Nguyen Du in collaboration with Vietnam Post features four stamps showcasing significant ceramic artifacts. These include the Dau Ram Ceramic Vase, Long Thanh Terracotta Vase Collection, Nhon Thanh Ceramic Vase, and Brown-Flower Ceramic Jar. Each stamp is sized at 37×37 mm.

The first stamp displays the Dau Ram Ceramic Vase, an ancient artifact originating from the late Phung Nguyen culture, with a history spanning over 3,000 years. Discovered in 1998 at the archaeological site in Dau Ram, Hoang Tan commune, Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh province, this treasure is currently exhibited at the Quang Ninh Museum and was officially recognized as a national treasure in December 2018.

The second stamp highlights the Long Thanh Terracotta Vase Collection, which comprises 18 terracotta vases demonstrating the artistic skills of the Sa Huynh culture. These vases, showcasing the evolution of terracotta craftsmanship, are housed at the Quang Ngai General Museum and were honored as national treasures in December 2018.

The third stamp features the Nhon Thanh Ceramic Vase, an intact artifact from the Oc Eo culture known for its exceptional ceramic craftsmanship and cultural exchanges with India during the mid-1st millennium. Preserved at the Can Tho Museum, this precious piece was designated a national treasure in December 2018.

The fourth stamp presents the Brown-Flower Ceramic Jar discovered at the Tran Temple site, a historically significant area dating back to the 13th-14th centuries. This jar is currently displayed at the National Museum of History and was acknowledged as a national treasure in December 2016.

National treasures in Vietnam hold immense historical, cultural, and artistic value. They represent the country’s diverse and rich cultural heritage, embodying its enduring history of resilience and progress.

Artist Nguyen Du utilized images of these treasures from the Quang Ninh Museum, Can Tho Museum, Quang Ngai General Museum, and the National Museum of History to craft the stamp designs. The stamp collection will be available for purchase from July 28, 2024, to June 30, 2026.

Prior to this release, two other stamp series focused on the theme of “National Treasures” were also introduced. The first series, “National Treasures (Part 1): Bronze Items,” showcased items like the Bronze Belt Buckle Set, Hop Minh Bronze Jar, Nui Nua Short Sword, and the Kneeling Figure Lamp.

The subsequent series, “National Treasures (Part 2): Gold Items,” featured treasures such as the Sac Menh Chi Bao Seal (1827), the Dai Viet National Nguyen Lords Seal (1709), the Ngọa Van-Yen Tu Gold Box (14th century), and the Nhan Tower Reliquary Box (7th-8th century).
