We’ve all got something that turns us on. For some people, it’s sexting. For others, it’s erotic audiobooks. And for Kristen Bell it’s… adaptogens.
In the latest episode of The Avocado Show, the actress and Hello Bello founder reveals that she had to stop taking adaptogens because they were revving her engine a little too much. “I’m still very into adaptogens, but I was taking a slew of them, and I think it was too many,” Bell reveals in the video. “I was taking maca, ashwagandha, and like seven other ones, and some of them work on your libido and I was getting too horny, and it was not working for me.”
Adaptogens are known for their ability to improve your overall well-being, and that includes increasing your sex drive (Amanda Chantal Bacon didn’t call one of her Moon Juice mixtures “Sex Dust” for nothing, after all), and while there are no real risks of taking too many of them, it may cause what Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine expert William Siff has previously told us are “functional disturbances,” like—yup—getting too turned on. “If you put that right potion together, you’re going to have to pull back,” says Bell. Clearly, there is a such thing as having too much of a good thing, and if you’re thinking of adding libido-boosting maca into your regimen, pros say to start slowly and max out between 2,000 milligrams to 3,500 milligrams a day.
Adaptogens aren’t the only practice Bell has had to ditch over the years: There was one workout modality that she swears she’ll never do again (because she hates it), and one food trend that she got so into, her friends had to stage an intervention. To find out what they are—plus the practices she has decided to stick with—check out the video above. Now, excuse me while I go order some adaptogens.
If you’re feeling turned on, here are eight sex toys you can order on Amazon. Just, whatever you do, please don’t masturbate with these common household items (a gynecologist is begging you).
