Inaugural Address of President Luong Cuong
On October 21, at the Dien Hong Hall during the Swearing-In Ceremony, President Luong Cuong shared his inaugural speech, filled with deep reflections and firm commitments.
In this significant moment, President Cuong expressed his emotional gratitude and recognized the heavy responsibility bestowed upon him by the Party, State, and the citizens, following his appointment by the National Assembly as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
He conveyed heartfelt thanks to the Party Central Committee, Politburo, Secretariat, General Secretary To Lam, and other leaders for their confidence in his capabilities. President Cuong also honored the legacy of the late President Ho Chi Minh and acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of the nation’s revolutionary leaders, veterans, Heroic Mothers, heroes, martyrs, and the Vietnamese populace who have shaped the country’s achievements and standing in the world.
Reflecting on his journey, President Cuong recalled volunteering for the army in February 1975 during the national liberation efforts, driven by a desire to witness the country’s unification, with no aspirations for rank or title. “My only hope was to return home alive after victory,” he stated.
With almost fifty years dedicated to the revolutionary cause, he reminisced about his evolution from a young soldier to a prominent leader. His unwavering loyalty to the Party, State, and people has guided him through various roles, always striving to learn and address challenges effectively.
President Cuong committed to embracing his responsibilities fully, focusing on national unity and progress. He stressed the need for a robust, transparent, lawful government that prioritizes the people’s service while fostering the strong solidarity of the Vietnamese nation.
Further, he underscored the necessity of bolstering national defense and security. President Cuong called for the establishment of a revolutionary, professional, elite, and modern military that remains loyal and trusted by the Party, State, and people.
President Cuong proposed enhancing the “people’s heart” approach in national defense and security while advocating for a foreign policy rooted in independence, peace, cooperation, and development. This entails pursuing diversification, multilateralism, and proactive global integration to protect the country’s interests.
As he looks ahead, President Cuong urges the Party Central Committee, Politburo, Secretariat, General Secretary, and all leadership levels, along with the entirety of the Vietnamese population, to cooperate and support him in his duties.
Expressing his long-standing devotion to public service over nearly half a century, he proclaimed, “This role represents the pinnacle of my journey. I am dedicated to working relentlessly to cultivate a united, peaceful, and prosperous Vietnam.”
