The participation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in the upcoming 16th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin, China, highlights Vietnam’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, and progress both regionally and globally, as noted by a diplomat.
In a discussion with Vietnam News Agency reporters in Beijing prior to PM Chinh’s trip from June 24 to 27, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh mentioned that significant leaders would also be present, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, the President of Ecuador, and the Prime Ministers of Singapore, Senegal, and Kyrgyzstan, along with over 100 ministerial-level figures and more than 1,700 representatives from businesses, international organizations, and academia worldwide.
The invitation extended to the Vietnamese PM for three consecutive years signifies the WEF’s acknowledgment of Vietnam’s vital role and contributions to economic advancement on both global and regional stages.
Through this visit, Vietnam aims to actively engage in dialogues concerning solutions for pressing economic and development challenges, while also identifying emerging trends in the global economy. The goal is to share insights, vision, and developmental experiences, especially after finalizing four key policy pillars essential for the country’s transformational journey into a new era of progress, Binh noted.
Engaging with global leaders, decision-makers, and businesses will allow Vietnam to enhance its image and communicate its governmental policies and objectives, fostering collaborative opportunities with other nations and enterprises to support Vietnam’s developmental ambitions, particularly in navigating the complexities of global trade, Binh added. This engagement is seen as a crucial avenue for Vietnam to expedite the pursuit of its priorities, including broadening export markets and attracting foreign investments.
Furthermore, PM Chinh’s attendance at the WEF for the third time underscores Vietnam’s respect for the organizing nation, further strengthening the positive trajectory of Vietnam-China relations.
The Vietnamese delegation will partake in various crucial activities during the meeting and the visit to China. The Prime Minister will act as a distinguished guest at a policy dialogue with the Executive Chairman of the WEF in Tianjin, deliver a pivotal address at the session titled “Is Asia’s Century at Risk?”, and participate in the conference’s opening session. He is also set to engage in bilateral discussions with leaders of other nations, the WEF, and major corporations.
The ambassador expressed confidence that PM Chinh’s contributions will significantly impact the success of the WEF meeting.
Binh elaborated that the delegation aims to convey the critical importance of cooperation and dialogue while advocating for a conducive global policy environment that stimulates new growth engines and promotes sustainable development amidst the current international climate.
In addition, PM Chinh will highlight the shared opportunities and challenges impacting global growth, discuss Vietnam’s viewpoints, and propose practical initiatives to enhance regional collaboration.
Moreover, the leader will underscore Vietnam’s ambitious vision and determination to reach its development objectives while adapting to evolving circumstances. He will outline significant policies set by the Party and State, alongside the nation’s socio-economic achievements; reaffirm Vietnam’s dedication to maintaining growth targets and ensuring rapid, sustainable, and efficient development; while emphasizing the appeal and potential of the Vietnamese market.
Finally, this meeting presents a chance for Vietnam to reiterate its respect for the global business community, demonstrating its readiness to engage in open dialogues while valuing constructive feedback from companies. The country is committed to establishing a supportive investment landscape for businesses, focusing on comprehensive reforms across various sectors including institutions, infrastructure, finance, and human resources. Vietnam will also seek investment partnerships in crucial areas needing advancements, such as AI, automation, biotechnology, renewable energy, infrastructure, and financial services, as stated by Binh.
Discussing Vietnam-China relations, Ambassador Binh mentioned that amidst a dynamic and unpredictable global economic environment, both countries should aim to deepen and enhance effective collaboration, striving for meaningful outcomes and new achievements.
He encouraged both sides to actively pursue common goals as agreed upon by their respective senior leaders, reinforcing the substantive foundations of their bilateral relations through investment and trade cooperation while boosting exports of quality Vietnamese agricultural products.
Major projects that symbolize bilateral cooperation should be prioritized, particularly the three standard-gauge railway lines – Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong, Lang Son – Hanoi, and Mong Cai – Ha Long – Hai Phong, which are vital for strategic infrastructure connectivity.
There should be a concerted effort to encourage Chinese investment in fields aligned with both nations’ strengths, including science, technology, digital innovation, green growth, and clean energy. Both countries should leverage regional free trade agreements like the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) 3.0 to foster balanced bilateral trade.
This marks the first official visit to China by a significant Vietnamese leader in 2025, following the successful state visit to Vietnam by Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping in April 2025, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the Year of Cultural Exchange.
Acknowledging the importance of this event, the Vietnamese Embassy in China has prioritized it politically, mobilizing resources and coordinating with relevant agencies and local entities to successfully promote the Prime Minister’s critical engagements.
The diplomat expressed confidence that this trip will advance and reinforce the mutual understanding achieved between the nations’ top leaders, sustaining the positive momentum of their bilateral relations while enhancing Vietnam’s influence within global cooperation platforms, ultimately creating tangible opportunities for sustainable and prosperous growth in the new era.
