Resolution 57: A Catalyst for Vietnam’s Innovative Future

Resolution 57 is the right decision, gives impulse to Vietnam’s innovation

Resolution 57: Key to Vietnam’s Future Development

The Politburo has unveiled Resolution 57, focusing on innovative strategies to enhance science, technology, and digital transformation in Vietnam. This resolution identifies these elements as crucial for elevating Vietnam’s status on the global stage and seizing opportunities to evolve into a prosperous nation during this pivotal era of national development.

By 2030, Vietnam aims to significantly boost its scientific prowess and innovation capabilities, aspiring to rank among the top countries with higher income levels.

Dr. Mai Liem Truc, former head of Vietnam’s postal and telecommunications sector, hailed the adoption of Resolution 57 as a landmark moment for the country’s IT industry in 2024.

As part of the ThinkTank policy advisory group, Dr. Truc noted the swift implementation of Resolution 57, highlighting that Party Chief To Lam is directly engaged as the head of the Central Steering Committee overseeing science, technology, innovations, and digital transformation.

“This reflects our long-awaited second renovation over the past decade or so, now termed the new era or ‘era of national rise.’ It is truly an inspiring slogan,” Dr. Truc remarked.

Impact on Telecommunications and Infrastructure

Nguyen Phong Nha, deputy director at the Ministry of Information and Communications’ Authority of Telecommunications, emphasized the significance of Resolution 57, indicating a forthcoming surge in investments and attention towards Vietnam’s telecommunications infrastructure, alongside other vital sectors.

From a business standpoint, Nguyen Tuan Huy, head of MobiFone’s digital transformation division, commended the resolution as a sound decision by the Politburo.

The resolution allocates 2% of GDP for research and development and a further 3% of the national budget for innovation, science, technology, and digital transformation, with the goal of positioning Vietnam among the top three countries in Southeast Asia and the top fifty globally in digital competitiveness.

Additionally, it aims for comprehensive 5G coverage across the nation by 2030 and the transformation of major cities into smart urban centers.

“This presents a massive undertaking but also a tremendous opportunity for advancing 5G deployment. Resolution 57 will be a catalyst for a transformational age,” said Huy.

Nguyen Quoc Khanh from VNPT echoed similar sentiments, expressing confidence that achieving nationwide 5G coverage by 2030 would prompt significant infrastructure improvements.
