Saigon River Welcomes an Iconic New Pedestrian Bridge

Ho Chi Minh City introduces landmark pedestrian bridge across Saigon River

Update on the Pedestrian Bridge Project

A recent project update was shared after a gathering chaired by Phan Van Mai, the Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, during the fifth session of the Standing Committee focused on Major City Projects and Public Investments.

During this meeting, Chairman Phan Van Mai confirmed the addition of the pedestrian bridge project to the city’s key initiatives. Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company has stepped up to take charge, financing all associated costs for the development.

The bridge, planned with an investment of approximately 1,000 billion VND, is set to be built following the city’s existing design directives. Stretching 500 meters, it will connect the Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1 with the riverside park in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area located in Thu Duc City.

The architecture of the bridge is influenced by the nipa palm leaf, a hallmark of southern Vietnam, and is anticipated to attract both residents and visitors alike. The city anticipates that this distinct design will significantly enhance the urban scenery.

As per the city’s Department of Transport (DoT), this pedestrian bridge stands out as the largest undertaking in Vietnam to be entirely financed through private contributions.

With a design capable of enduring earthquakes up to a magnitude of 7, strong winds, and heavy foot traffic, the bridge prioritizes safety and durability.

Moreover, it will not only cater to walkers but also include bike lanes and facilities for those with disabilities. In critical situations, the design permits access for ambulances as well.
