In a session of the National Assembly Standing Committee held on February 7, Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To stressed that cybercrime is a rapidly growing global concern, with criminals utilizing advanced technology and sophisticated deceitful techniques.
Officials called for heightened public awareness and stronger preventative actions to tackle the increasing menace of internet fraud.
During the meeting, Nguyen Thanh Hai, the Head of the Delegate Affairs Committee, brought attention to the troubling rise in online scams.
She pointed out that these criminals operate in organized groups, with different individuals assigned to craft scripts, make calls, and impersonate government officials to trick victims.
“Many individuals receive scam calls demanding immediate payments to avoid penalties, such as service disconnections,” Hai remarked. Although authorities have successfully disrupted several major scams, enhancing public awareness remains vital.
The National Assembly Standing Committee commended recent measures to combat cybercrime but emphasized the necessity for educational campaigns to inform citizens about fraudulent schemes.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Tran Quang Phuong, recognized the effectiveness of ongoing law enforcement efforts against online crime but stressed the importance of ongoing vigilance.
“These offenses are intricate and often involve international collaboration between criminals inside and outside Vietnam,” Phuong stated.
He urged the Ministry of Public Security to release detailed alerts about scam tactics to better equip citizens in safeguarding themselves.
Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To reported that law enforcement maintained national security and public order during the Lunar New Year, resulting in a general decline in crime rates.
“The situation remains stable across all sectors, with law enforcement actively monitoring and dismantling cybercrime operations,” To mentioned.
Authorities also noted a considerable enhancement in traffic safety, showcasing a 36% reduction in accidents and fewer instances of drunk driving during the Tet celebrations. The public widely applauded law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring safety throughout the holiday.

Cybercrime: A global challenge that demands united action
Tran Quoc To acknowledged that online crime poses significant challenges for law enforcement agencies globally. Cybercriminals harness cutting-edge technology, false identities, and worldwide networks for their fraudulent activities, complicating prevention efforts.
“In numerous instances, criminals create bogus email addresses and digital platforms, making it highly challenging to trace them,” To explained. Notably, Vietnam’s law enforcement has successfully dismantled several major operations in recent months.
He emphasized that while law enforcement plays a crucial role in combating crimes, collective action from all sectors of the community is essential. “Preventing cybercrime calls for both security initiatives and public awareness. Some victims succumb to scams out of greed or ignorance, highlighting the importance of public education,” he stated.
The Ministry of Public Security is dedicated to expanding investigations and bolstering cybersecurity initiatives. Authorities urge citizens to report any suspicious activities, keep informed about scam tactics, and refrain from financial dealings with unidentified sources.
“Cybercrime is a continually evolving threat; however, through improved public awareness and sustained law enforcement efforts, we can considerably lower the risks,” To asserted.
